Technical Manager to £50K p/a (Food Processing) Lincolnshire

GBR Recruitment Ltd are working with a leading food manufacturing business, recruiting for an experienced Technical Manager responsible for delivering top end technical / quality & hygiene functions, as well as providing technical support, and decision making to the factory floor in order to ensure high standards across; product safety, quality and legality at all times.


You will be a real foodie with a strong back ground in food manufacturing, with experience across an array of food product lines & within differing environments (low & high care, ambient & chilled). 


Strong BRC compliance & legislation knowledge is a must have for this key role, with experience of BRC audits (announced & unannounced preparation & facilitation). 


This role is responsible for a number direct reports, across the varying areas / departments of responsibility 



  • Oversee at site level product safety, quality, and legality, to ensure staff compliance.

  • The technical manager needs to stay in touch with quarantined stock at the earliest opportunity and carry out investigations to identify route cause through analysis with a view to identify effective corrective actions.

  • Analysis data from the factory floor to determine if factory personnel are aware of the factory standards implementing / organising training as appropriate.

  • Be familiar with customer requirements and act upon these as appropriate through daily activities.

  • With Due Diligence in mind continually strive to improve personal and team performance and anticipate risks and take appropriate action to avoid potential issues.

  • Manage hygiene schedules and hygiene teams, laundry function, chemical supply and KPI’s relevant to the hygiene function.

  • Designated Water Manager.

  • Responsible for allergen controls and management, particularly handling of nuts and nuts related products.

  • Appropriate share of responsibility for all aspects of technical / quality manuals

  • Responsible for appropriate share of preparation and hosting of visits, audits and launches.

  • Appropriate, effective and accurate communication to peers and head of technical.

  • Flexibility of hours appropriate to the 24 x 7 business needs.

  • Appropriate level of health and safety responsibility within the remit of this role.

  • Appropriately and effectively manage the team, carrying out regular appraisals with a view for continuous improvements.

  • To personally ensure that all aspects of Due Diligence (Food Safety, Quality and Legislation) are adhered to.

  • To personally take the appropriate and reasonable action in the event of witnessing a breach (or potential breach) of Food Safety, Quality or Legislation.

  • KPIs include: Complaints, Micro pass rates, Recall/withdrawal incidence – detailed in monthly period report

  • Responsibility to attend H&S Committee meetings or on rare occasions where this is not possible ensure the department is represented during the meeting. Ensure issues reported by department employees and agency workers are raised at H&S Committee meetings and any actions required are communicated and implemented within agreed time frames. 

Experience Levels Required:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience in a Technical Management role 

  • Experience of computer systems, including those of retailers (the top 4) 

  • Experience of procedures involved in bringing a product to launch / NPD / NPI 

  • Experience of BRC Global Food Standards criteria & audits (announced & un-announced) 

  • Experience of customer Codes of Practice (major food retailers / food wholesalers) 

  • Strong knowledge of GMP, HACCP, CI, LEAN & High / Low Care environments 

  • Experience of working in a fast paced, chilled food manufacturing business

  • Strong communicator at all levels (face to face & over email / telephone) 

  • Microbiology trained (beneficial not a must have) 

  • Innovative, dynamic problem solver

  • Ability to coach, mentor & train others to develop further
